Gregory Makalu Pro 70 Backpack
A tried and tested alpine expedition favorite, the Gregory Makalu Pro 70 backpack is the second largest backpack in Gregory’s state-of-the-art mountaineering backpack range. As of 2011/2012, this range has been discontinued by Gregory but stock is still available for purchase from good camping stores and amazon.com.
The ‘Makalu Pro 70′ is available in 3 sizes to suit the specific torso length of its would-be carrier and ensure that load is effectively transferred to the hips. Across these sizes, pack capacity ranges from 62 to 75 litres.

The Gregory Z65 backpack boasts a newly designed, beefed up waist belt that effectively transfers the load off of your back and onto your hips for maximum comfort on the trail. For 2012, this large ventilated gregory backpack for men is available in colors navy blue, granite gray and ember. Featuring ventilated and moisture wicking harness and waistbelt, all access front zip, dual axe/ tool attachment points with secure carry under compression flaps, water-resistant zippers and made from 210D double diamond ripstop and 210D x 420D HD flat weave fabrics, this gregory backpack is the largest ventilated pack in the range.

This pack is great and is lightweight when compared to similar-volume packs. There is plenty of space with easy access from the side or top.
Lots of compression straps, 4 side (top and bottom), 2 top on lid and 1 on top and drawstring closure, and 2 bottom allow you to tighten the pack nicely so if you’re carrying less than 65 liters, it won’t feel like it. The front-zip pocket has a surprising amount of space that is enough for rain gear and a backup garbage bag. 35 lbs carries well but 50 lbs does not.
The hip belt is awesome and easily supports most weight without even realizing it and the pockets on the hipbelts are really useful. There are no hot spots in the shoulders either. Internal pocket can easily fit a 3 liter hydration pack.
The JetStream suspension frame system definitely allows airflow to pass on your back. You can feel the breeze pass through as you are hiking which is most welcome on hot days and also contours to your back quite nicely.
A great pack for weekend trips, and even multiday trips with others who can split the gear load.

Gregory Z35-R Ventilated Backpack
The Gregory Z35-R backpack cuts weight and complexity by sporting a roll top style main access. Great for times when you need more options and capacity than your typical daypack. With a max capacity of 40 litres, this is the smallest ventilated backpack for men in Gregory’s backpacking range i.e. packs built with the ‘Jetstream LTS’ suspension frame. Even smaller ventilated packs are available in the hiking range which incorporate ‘Crossflow DTS’ suspension for lighter loads. Whichever one is more suitable for you, these Z range gregory backpacks will keep you cool on the trail. Amazingly, the Z35-R still manages to pack in an expandable front bucket pocket, dual hydration ports and sleeve, dual axe/tool attachment points with secure carry-under compression flaps, tubular webbing ski loops and moisture wicking harness and waistbelt.

Billed as Gregory’s smallest ventilated camping backpack because even though smaller ventilated models do exist, they are built on the lightweight Crossflow DTS internal suspension frame more suitable for easy-going hiking trips.
The Z35-R on the other hand, uses Jetstream DTS technology meaning that the weight of your gear rests directly on the framesheet while the Aerotech Mesh backpanel allows for airflow across your back.
Its carries more than 30lbs and still weighs less than 4lbs. Wide and well padded shoulder straps and waistbelt make for comfortable load-bearing.
Roll-top closure make take some getting used to but makes for neat and quick pack access.

A customizable climbing machine, the Gregory Alpinisto 50 backpack is a mid-size pack in Gregory’s high-performance range of mountaineering backpacks. The climatic zones in mountains present a huge challenge to hikers. At high altitudes, the temperature falls and precipitation is likely.
