The first to apply this technology to large internal frame backpacks, Flo-Form® technology is just one of the secrets behind Gregory’s comfortable packs. It involves a patented process that molds laminates of fabric and foam together by heating to form shapes and components that cannot be created with standard sewing methods.
With conventional methods, bending and stitching standard fabrics results in uneven surfaces and creases which chafe and rub against your body during movement. Flo-Form® moulds critical backpack components that make contact with the body such as the waist-belt and harness straps to the exact shape of the body which results in minimised chafing and discomfort and a more pleasurable experience.
Even though other backpacks may include similar technology, Gregory is already using third generation Flo-Form® technology, and will continue to lead the pack.
Flo-Form® II Shoulder Harness
Molded from one piece of Evasote foam, the S-curved Gregory Flo-Form® II shoulder harness wraps over the shoulders and across the chest tracing a line of constant contact so that no part of the upper body bears more pressure than any other.
Now for the clever part. All of the construction within the shoulder harness is attached to the meshing that runs along its top. This meshing is attached to the top of the foam padding with a strap of Velcro that ensures all of the load bearing stress is channelled into the meshing and not the Evasote foam layer.
Thus unlike many other backpack manufacturers who weaken the foam padding by stitching through it, Gregory shoulder harnesses provide long-lasting padding and unparalleled comfort mile after mile.
Furthermore, the padding is not directly attached to the backpanel meaning that it can be moved in towards or out away from your neck. This allows the shoulder harness to be more precisely aligned along the top of the shoulder, a feature that women have found particularly beneficial.
Flo-Form® II Waist-belt
The Flo-Form II waist-belt pads are built with three layers of foam to provide maximum comfort and can slide on over the waistbelt panel for a custom fit. Shaped to wrap around the hip-bones, these Backpacker Magazine award-winning waistbelt pads are made of the finest materials and wrap seamlessly around the waist providing a lifetime of comfort.
